AEP 2009

The Third Academic Event Professional Conference, AEP 2009, will take place alongside The Special Event Show in San Diego on Monday January 26, 2009.  The UC San Diego, in the spectacular setting of La Jolla will kindly host the conference.

AEP 2009 addresses the need for event education and networking within our market sector by providing a cost-effective forum with leading campus planners and event industry speakers to run immediately prior to TSE. AEP continues to grow year on year following outstanding success in both LA and Atlanta.

The program commences on Sunday January 25 with a welcome reception at the host hotel, the Sheraton La Jolla from 6pm – 7:30pm. A full day educational program will take place on Monday January 26 at UC San Diego, immediately followed by a networking reception, with views over the Pacific, at the spectacular Birch Aquarium, Scripps Institution of Oceanography from 5.30pm to 7.30pm

The total cost for the full program, excluding hotel accommodation, is only $225. ($150 if you are attending TSE with an Educational Package – see Special Event Show page for details)

AEP 2009 will also feature a Collateral Exhibition. This is an opportunity for attendees to bring examples of creative, budget conscious or innovative event materials and collaterals they have used/developed to share with their peers.

AEP 2009 will take place on the first day of The Special Event Show, before the educational sessions begin, and there will be a ‘lessons learned/outcomes’ session on Thursday January 29 at TSE as an inclusive part of the program.

Background

The inaugural AEP conference took place at USC in Los Angeles in 2007 and AEP 2008 took place at Georgia State University in Atlanta.  Both events were highly successful and have provided almost 300 campus planners from over 62 colleges and universities an incredible educational and networking opportunity at minimal cost to their institution.

A full program of general and breakouts sessions covered an extensive range of campus specific topics click here. The program encouraged lively, interactive feedback between speakers and attendees, with participants giving their own real life experiences and solutions to a range of event challenges.

Comments from attendees included:

“Wonderful! The networking alone is worth the registration fee”.

“Great job! This is a hidden jewel – I’m glad I found it!”

“Great session, presenters were well prepared. This is the best educational conference I have attended”.

“I love that this event exists – it works so well paired with TSE”.

The day was complimented by the innovative ‘TEAM AEP luncheon in the Georgia State Sports Area where a ‘white paper’ was collated, the result of which can be viewed here..  Attendees were invited to join topic specific tables covering the subjects of the day, each of which was facilitated by an AEP faculty member with a pre-set list of questions. Answers and solutions were collated by a student Ambassador from UGA and collated into a white paper. The white paper and session presentations can be downloaded for free, and can be found in the program section under each session title.

AEP 2009, has become a must attend conference for any campus event planner, providing an environment where ideas can truly prosper. The AEP committee look forward to welcoming you to the conference in San Diego 2009.
